Pool and Spa

A homeowner can significantly reduce pool heating costs by installing a solar pool heater. Solar pool heaters can be cost competitive with both gas and heat pump pool heaters, and they have very low annual operating costs. Solar pool heating systems are most effective when used in conjunction with a thermal pool blanket.

Solar systems can provide a temperature increase of 5 to 15 degrees over several days of sunny weather. With the use of a solar blanket in the early spring and late fall, you can expect a 15 to 25 degree increase. In summer months when there are numerous 100+ degree days, the solar pool heating system uses the evening temperatures to COOL the pool to the refreshing mid-80’s. The panels are available in grey, black, and terracotta colors.

If the pool/spa has a heating system, proper use of a timer can also provide further energy efficiency, by controlling the times of day and days of the week that the heating system is utilized. Digital year-round pool timers can be easily installed as a quick retro-fit for old timers. Choose timers that have programming options to run 1 or 2 filter cycles per day to extend the life of your pool components.
